Michael Hedges

Though Michael Hedges may not be considered a Rock artist by some, in my opinion, he's one of the most innovative, and talented guitarists I've ever heard. He was mainly an acoustic guitarist/ singer, and was active from 1973 to 1997. Hedges mainly recorded for a record company called Windham Hill. Michael disliked Windham Hill because they labeled him as a new age guitarist, and Hedges hated being labeled into one genre because he played so much more. He released his first four albums for Windham Hill between 1981 and 1987. Hedges can be easily recognized for his unique style of playing. I can't even describe it. I had been trying to find the right name for the style for 15 minutes before i realized, that it's impossible.

Here we have Michael Hedges' Aerial Boundaries
Before you ask, I will inform you that everything you hear in this song is just Michael playing that guitar. No backup band, no recording of him playing a separate part. It's all just him on his guitar.

Michael Hedges also played with Leo Kottke

Unfortunately we can no longer see his incredible talent. In 1997 on his way to an airport to visit his girlfriend, his car hit ice and he slid off a 120 foot cliff.

He will always have a special place in my heart, and in guitarists' hearts everywhere.
